Will i finish the race? Only for today.
I was just looking through some jumps videos on youtube and i started to watch Jonathan Edwards jump. I was please. Because I knew at that time Jonathan Edwards loves God and Jumps for His glory. So i decided to wiki him. Only to find that he renounce his beliefs in febuary 2007. It hooked to that phrase and i began to search article upon article about this incident. I found out truths.
Pastor Dave was right when he said people either start well or finish well, they hardly do both. Edwards, said the sinners pray at six, has tears streaming down his eyes when he was a teenager during youth camp. He was literally on fire and hungry for God. He became a full time athletes in the belief that he could influnce the lost world with his success, by pointing it to God- This he did so well. He made headlines when he missed the 1991 world championships because the finals was on a Sunday. in 1993 he won a silver, and 1995, A neww world Record in Triple Jump. In the 2000 olympics, he even had a tin of sardines in his backpack when he went down to the competition arena. This was to remind himself how God fed the 5000. Fives loaves and two fish. He wanted to let himself know that God, multiplied his stregnth. He was not afriad to let the world know.
But he apparently did not finish well.
Many speculated, but I have to agree on this one thing. Athletes are talented, parts of them a visibly bigger and stronger than others, they are poplular and respected. This is the greatest danger of my walk. To take the glory. Because to ttake the glory, is like living for your own self, now, if everyone lived for himself, there is no love- no love, no life.
Success can be= to threat.
Now I am successful, God oh God, I am afraid of what i may think of you in the future, but help me to trust you each day at a time.
